Rock climbing is a favorite adventure sport for many young people. In general, rock climbing is done on a contoured rock cliff with a slope angle and a certain degree of difficulty. Mount Lao, or Laoshan in Chinese, is located east of Qingdao. It is about 1,132.7 meters high and has an area of more than 40 km2. This place is known as the birthplace of Taoism, so there are temples on this mountain, including Temple of Supreme Purity, and Yakou Temple. Besides that, Laoshan is also known as a place to go rock climbing. Climbers from all over the world come here. There are three rock climbing routes on Laoshan: the southern line, the central line and the eastern line.
Beijing Miyun White River Valley
White River is about 110 km (65 miles) outside Beijing. This place is regarded as the birthplace of rock climbing in China and also known as “The 100Mile Gallery.” The cliffs are mostly granite with some loose rocks and a friction that is good for climbing.
Yangshuo is in the heart of southern China. Its stunning karst-limestone landscapes and the availability of public transportations make it a popular climbing destination. Yangshuo offers several climbing spots, including: White Mountain, Moon Hill and Wine Bottle. Every year from October 31st – November 2nd, Yangshuo holds the Yangshuo Climbing Festival.
Fumin is in Yunnan province, and has 100 climbing routes. This place has beautiful natural scenery, a comfortable environment and a low cost that attracts lots of climbers.
Lhasa is in Duodi County. It has been developed by Federation Francaise de la Montagne et L’ Escalade (FFME) and Tibet Mountaineering School since 2,000. Currently, there are 30 climbing routes, all with different difficulty levels. The main climbing area in Lhasa is Sera Cliff, visible from town.
